The sound of a construction worker operating a concrete road saw on a rainy day is heard in this recording. The recording begins with the saw already in operation, then is shut off and shortly restarted. He makes a couple of passes on the section of road he is working on and turns the machine off. Time to give something back. Drilling right in front of my house. Because internet cable was broken. Used the opportunity to mic it up. Recording made from inside. Drilling is about 5m away with a wall in between. You can hear my son about halfway through way in the background. But thought i wouldn't cut up the sample. I recorded this from a balcony (5th floor) in the middle of a summer day (end of july), using a mid/side set (mkh30 + c480 b-uls/ck62-df omni) into sound devices mixpre3. Not any processing has been added, except a plain m/s to x/y stereo conversion and low-cut filter (30hz). This is a generally quiet atmo, sometimes light wind comes in, some seagulls and other birds are there at times, some construction work happens etc. The traffic noise is present, but in the distant way. Lots of bangs, bongs, clangs and you-name-it-whats. Yesternight our theatrical trouppe had been disassembling the set; main part of it is a huge, multi-ton construction consisting of several dozens (or hundreds?) steel tubes - it looks like erecting scaffolding, but much more steady. Disassembling it is a chore even if you have 25+ people around. I have recorded the later stage: clanging tubes are dragged to the hoister in order to be brought down to the ground level and loaded into a truck. Speech is cut off (hopefully all of it). Have a good use of it.

This piece is a sound-sculpture of a weather effect commonly called the beast from the east in the uk. It is based on a longer piece by me called frozen kaos. This was constructed by me using only copywrite free sources of sounds, musical(ish) pieces and natural sounds. All of these were assembled and processed using the free software package audacity™. Most samples have been filtered, pitched, and manipulated vastly to make the basic foundation.
